The Web Form Data Loss Investigator

Create an interactive testing tool that helps developers investigate when users lose form data during navigation, validation errors, refreshes, interrupted sessions, or network failures.

Allow developers to define form fields, validation rules, save behavior, navigation steps, and expected persistence requirements.

Build:

  • A visual form-state timeline.

  • A simulator for refreshes, back navigation, failed submissions, and interrupted requests.

  • A field-level data persistence matrix.

  • A detector for states where entered information may be lost.

  • A comparison of local draft saving, session persistence, and server-side persistence strategies.

  • Test-case generation for empty, partially completed, and invalid forms.

  • A reproduction report for each detected failure.

  • Exportable test specifications for adapting to browser automation tools.

Use a mock form by default and clearly distinguish simulation from real browser execution. Do not store real personal information in demonstration data. Include deterministic tests for field persistence and recovery behavior.
